Materials Assignment I: Materials Selection and Composites - This is the first assignment for the Materials Section of the class. Due December 2, 2008. (**Don’t forget to add a link to your composite documentation as a comment to this post).
These are relevant readings that will help you understand the subject covered today:
Material Selection: Getting Started Tutorial - This document has some examples on how to use the material selection software. It will help you figure out the first part of the assignment.
Family Trees: Organizing Materials and Processes - This document is part of Michael Ashby’s book Materials: Engineering, Science, Processing and Design and explains the big picture of material and process selection.
Make Magazine: Working with Carbon Fiber - This will give you a more detailed explanation of how to make your own carbon fiber composites. You should read this before starting Part II of the assignment.
