Welcome to the Techniques for Design and Fabrication website
Welcome the course site for MAS.962: Techniques for Design and Fabrication. This course that focuses on the realistic challenges of designing and building with technology, as well as the basic theory underlying how such systems work. The intent is to provide students with practical skills in electronics, fabrication, mechatronics, and materials selection and production, and is tailored to the requirements of the work done at the Media Lab.
The first meeting will be on September 4th, 9:30am, in the Roth room (second floor, exit elevator and turn left). Attendance of the first meeting is mandatory for enrollment.
We will experimentally offer the ability to take the course as a 3, 6, 9 or 12 unit H-credit course. Details will be provided during the first class on how enrollment for less than 12 credits will work.
We hope to have about 20 people in this lab-based course. If we have more interest in the class than slots, placement will be decided in the following order of preference:
- Media Lab student
- First year student
- Whether the student is taking the full course or a segment (depending on matching)
- Ties will be broken by random selection or expressed interest
